Just hours after the LA Times story appeared, however, Space.com reported that NASA spokesman Don Savage claimed that the LA Times story misstated some elements of what O’Keefe discussed regarding NASA’s Nuclear Space Initiative (NSI). Specifically, he says that O’Keefe did not predict anything that Bush would say in the upcoming State of the Union and, more importantly, that the NSI is set to develop reactor technologies for advanced robotic exploration, but NASA is not looking at a specific human mission to Mars.
