…there IS no weekend sex news! Prince Charles said so! What, you think I’m obsessed on this topic or something?

On the biological front, by far the most interesting story is the breakthrough protein map that was published for fruit flies. Sure, the Central Dogma of biology for decades now has been genes make proteins, but this is the first time we’ve gotten a real handle on just what all those proteins DO and just how they interact with one another on a systemic organism level. About 70% of this data is seen as directly applicable to human protein interactions on the “life is life, regardless of what species it is” level. This monumental achievement by CuraGen is the cover story in this week’s Science magazine, but the article text requires a subscription to read. Funny, though, the huge protein map itself is in an open-access part of Science’s website.
