Firefly : Dead … Or Only Suspended Animation?

Boy, I sure hope not. Over on the Official Firefly Message Board, where the nicest Browncoats you’ll ever meet hang out, a couple of postings have appeared that are worth passing on. Last Thursday night Firefly star Nathan Fillion said: “Hello all! Hope your winter/spring has been as productive and busy as mine. I’ve had my nose to the grindstone looking for work. Been hanging with castmembers and remembering the “good times” as we like to call them. We are all still waiting to hear [creator] Joss’ [Weadon] news about Firefly. He has been hard at work and keeping us all updated, it looks as though something is close! I can’t wait to get those tightpants on again. I’ve had a little time on my hands, been able to go hiking much more than i used to during crazy Firefly hours. Visited the Fox lot yesterday to see that they have dismantled the ship. Not to worry, I’m told it can be put together in a jiffy, and the crew is anxious to do just that. Meantime, I’m auditioning like crazy, praying for a job I can love as much as Firefly. FAT CHANCE!”

As if it’s not encouraging enough that Capt. Tightpants himself is still keeping the Firefly faith, yesterday along comes super-fan Kiba Riva, maven of Firefly:Immediate Assistance (F:IA) who posts: “Last weekend I attended the Posting Board Party, an event for members of the Buffy posting board “The Bronze” which was at the old WB Buffy site and has since been fragmented. As it’s a charity event, lots of folks who work on the show, from make-up artists to actors, were there. So was Joss.
I talked to him about Firefly: Immediate Assistance, and said that people were writing 20th Century Fox asking for DVDs and merchandise. He said hopefully I’ll have reason to start the F:IA machine going again, and that he wasn’t talking about DVDs. What does this mean? Well, we know that the show isn’t going to be on the air, from Nathan Fillion’s contract with ABC (sic) and quotes from Gina Torres at Sci Fi Wire. We also know that Mutant Enemy has not put the show out to pasture, from Joss’s statement to me and quotes from Gina Torres saying that “things are cooking.” I don’t know what this means. It could be any number of things. What it does mean, is that Firefly is gone from the airwaves but not forgotten….I wish there were details. The things Joss said to me were megacryptic…essentially, ‘I’m not talking about DVDs’ with a little ‘Mwahahaha’ grin.”

As any fan knows, the whole point of Firefly is “never give up, never surrender”. Since the show is so neglected there’s no officially released merchandise, head on over to the Browncoat Commissary to get some copyright-clean stuff…and keep flying.

The only show that I look forward to recently is Firefly. Then Fox cancelled it. I WILL stop watching FOX, and I will boycott all services and products from any of FOX’s sponsors. Even FOXNews network will no longer appear on my TV. I just got on the internet in order to express my love for the series and my disgust at the cancellation. I dearly hope that Whedon can save this show, and pay for it myself if I had the money. The only power we have is to gripe or NOT BUY! So listen up corporate sponsors of FOX, you WILL lose my business over this.

Never commented on this, but my little brother just came over and was commenting on the show. Is there any new info? Anything that can be done?
