This is the first electronic compilation of Einstein’s writings. Over the last 40 years, the two separate teams had been compiling his writings, and publishing them in books every few years, with eight volumes so far, of about twenty expected. The web site contains many manuscripts not yet available in those compilations.

One thing to remember was that Albert Einstein was German, so these papers are written in German.  However, English translations of 22 of the most important works are provided, such as the Princeton Lectures (Adobe Acrobat PDF). The web site can be difficult to navigate, so look near the top of the pages for PDF icons with the word “English” underneath. Note also that users of web browsers other than Microsoft Internet Explorer may experience difficulties navigating the web site.

For more information on this project, see the articles in The New York Times (free registration required) or CNN (Reuters).
