Movies Sunday, May 4, 2003 . This is a SciScoop post by Ricky James
I just got out of the theatre from seeing X2 : X-Men United and it’s a solid 5 out of 5 stars in my book. This is total perfection on every level – plot, theme, characterization, special effects, ensemble performances, you name it. Magneto & Co. take the low road and Professor X & the X-Men the high road to survival for mutants against Stryker & the humans; it’s a bumpy, popcorn-chomping, thought-provoking ride for all. Teamwork between the good and evil mutants blends superbly with individual decisions and agonizing choices among key individuals, especially Wolverine and Jean Grey. Patrick Stewart, I hope, has permanently traded his Captain’s chair up to a wheelchair for the remainder of his sci-fi movie career. If you haven’t gotten out there this weekend to help on the record-breaking $155 million worldwide box office weekend, don’t let anybody tell you about the ending – dare I give anything away by saying they left things open for a sequel?
And speaking of sequels and spoilers, avoid this week’s Time magazine like the plague – it supposedly gives away the surprise ending to Matrix Reloaded in this article. I ain’t read it and I ain’t gonna. How’s your self-discipline?
Update [2003-5-8 20:14:11 by rickyjames]:: Told you so. Go ahead, you can read that “told you so” link, no Matrix spoilers there – just the screams from lots of irate fans.

Why oh why did you post that link? I am agonized over getting the slightest bit of information about the movie I most anticipate at the cost of ruining it.
I won’t click! I won’t click!

I felt much the same way after seeing Star Wars way back in ‘77. Imagine my rage at seeing Annie Hall win the Oscar for best picture that year. None of my sixth grade buddies could understand it, either. The travisty of it all.

Okay, I saw the new XMEN too. It wasn’t that good – that’s because the story had one huge gigantic hole in it all the purpose of extendeding the story out longer. I could explain this further, but before I do, I’ll be nice and say WARNING, SPOILERS AHEAD! DO NOT READ IF YOU’VE NOT SEEN THE MOVIE AND WANT TO TRY AND ENJOY IT WITHOUT MY COMMENTS MESSING IT UP.
<spoiler>Doesn’t it seem stupid that Dr. Jean Grey would be killed by a wall of water when the freeze kid was on the ship and could have easily turned the entire flood into a ice cube? I just hate it when a character is killed off in the name of "plot". Sure, she’ll be back in the next movie with some lame excuse entrance along with mysterious plot twists. To put it bluntly, it was a stupid plot twist and it sucked.</spoiler>
If you’re considering watching this movie, download XDCC catcher and download it off IRC. It’s not worth the $8.

What In that movie made you think Bobby(ice man) could possibly freeze an entire Lakes worth of flash flood ? His moms coffee? the foot thick wall at the mansion?
The movie sets up obvoius limitations for most of the characters…Brian singer and crew thought through the entire scene carefully. suspend your disbelief and just enjoy the damn movie.
