Eventually inventor Svend Christensen from the Danish Institute of Agricultural Sciences will arm his terminator robot with the ability to kill the weeds, too, by applying a few drops of herbicide. Eventually a very smart and dexterous robot would not need herbicides at all, but would pluck the weed from the ground instead. Such a goal remains a still-distant possibility. Around 40 more broad-leaved weed species have to be modeled before the system can be used in practice. A bigger challenge will be to model grassy weeds, which are a worse problem for cereal crops around the world.
