According to a survey conducted on 4913 men and women in Melbourne, it has been found that those living in the most disadvantaged and underprivileged areas are likely to be heavier as compared to those residing in rich areas or locality.

It has also been indicated in some studies on obesity that people with lower income and lower education are at greater risk of becoming overweight or obese as compared to those hailing from affluent community. It has been found that living in poorer areas could be a more important factor regarding obesity as compared to a person’s individual socioeconomic characteristics.

According to some studies, it has also been noticed that there’s a high number of fast food outlets in low socioeconomic areas and this is one of the root cause behind the increasing number of high obesity rates in such area. These places boost of a greater number of take-away food outlets as compared to posh locality which means people living in disadvantaged areas have more than double the exposure to fast food outlets than those living in the most affluent areas.

So, while buying a new home, we need to take care of lots of things for making our life a pleasurable one. As living in an area which is surrounded by fast food joints can definitely draw us towards these unhealthy eateries and due to this, we’ll become victims of obesity. So, think rationally about the location of your residence before you make the final decision as you can’t change it later on.

Apart from these, it’s of prime concern for the government bodies to focus on local areas while developing interventions to reduce overweight and obesity in disadvantaged groups for making their life free of obesity and the complications associated with it.
