A team led by Ben Bussey of the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Maryland, has discovered a few precious spots on the Moon that may be bathed in permanent sunlight. These spots, located on the mountains and crater rims at the Moon’s north pole, are strong candidates to be the destination of upcoming lunar space missions as the perpetual sunlight makes the locale ideal for a future lunar base. Visitors to these sunny pole positions would enjoy relatively warmer temperatures, an abundant source of solar power, and might even be close to a potential water source in frozen lakes.
