The result, combined with recent evidence from robotic missions to Mars, suggests that the evidence of liquid water on the planet must have come from relatively brief periods of warming in the planets history, or from localized events. This in turn suggests that Mars likely has not had conditions suitable for life to evolve, at least in the last 3.5 billion years.
