The question of the ages for men, of course, is how to get the women. A man’s success with the ladies is a true measure of his worth. And we finally have some scientific evidence of what we’ve known all along—that wealth is a prime indicator of success in the bedroom (anyone who’s seen Donald Trump should realize that wealth can beat looks any day). John Manning, a professor of psychology at the University of Central Lancashire has performed a study showing sex drive increases with income for both men and women. But even though the libido increases for both, only the wealthier men actually show an increase in sexual activity. The results of this study will be broadcast on the BBC and have been submitted for publication in Archives of Sexual Behaviour.
There is more to attracting women, however, then just a fat wallet. Prostitution is billed as the second oldest profession, and women have been using men for their money for untold ages (wonder what the first oldest profession is?). Which brings up research by Peter Sozou and Robert Seymour at University College London (press release). When the male woos the female with expensive but essentially worthless gifts (such as theater tickets), both partners win. The female knows the male is serious because he is giving up significant amounts of hard-earned money, and the male knows the female is not getting anything of substance (such as rent, jewelry, etc.) and is therefore not using him for his money. Thus, each partner is ensured the other is truly committed to the relationship. The study is published in Proceedings of the Royal Society B.
