Real Story performed a study where 147 non-organic chickens were purchased from British shops, 63 of which were raised in the UK and 84 from abroad. The results were as follows:

  • Of the UK-raised chickens, over half had E.coli resistant to three or more antibiotics.
  • More than a third of all chickens were found to contain E.coli resistant to the antibiotic Trimethoprim.
  • 12 chickens contained drug-resistant Campylobacter.
  • 6 chickens contained Vancomycin-resistant Enteroccci.

The results are disputed by the British Poultry Council (well, duh…), but they still show why it is important to cook meat thoroughly.
