Ten years ago, a new heart had been transplanted alongside the two-year-old’s sick heart, which was rendered nonfunctional by cardiomyopathy. After seven years the girl’s heart recovered and again was pumping blood. Three years later, the donated heart was being rejected by the girl’s body so it was removed.
This is thought to be the first such removal in Britain, and possibly in the world.
