We live in a classical world. Yet, there is a ghostlike atomic world underneath. Everyone knows that a ball is composed of atoms. But nobody knows what atoms look like, and especially, how in hell atoms move. They don’t look like small balls at all; for instance, a single atom can pass through two slits at the same time. The more stunning fact is that we don’t exactly know how a ball moves either. It appears to move in a continuous way. This, however, is a mere illusion. Even the greatest scientists Newton and Einstein were also deluded by the appearance.

How about the real motion then? The new book will lead you to walk out Plato’s cave along a logical and comprehensible road. After passing Zeno’s arrow, Newton’s inertia, Einstein’s light, and Schrodinger’s cat, you will finally reach the real world, where every thing in the universe, whether it is an atom or a ball or even a star, jumps in a random and discontinuous way. In a famous metaphor, God does play dice with the universe. In this new picture of reality, thing is not inert but active; it ceaselessly jumps by its own “free will”. Moreover, such motion will entangle the universe into an inseparable whole in the form of time division. Is this new world not amazing?

Life is transitory. Everyone is a mere mote in the universe. But God gives us mind; thus we can see and understand the real world. The most happiness is not beyond this. As the great Chinese sage Confucius taught us, “Hear the Tao in the morning, and it would be all right to die that evening.” I hope that this book will not only tell you a startling new picture of the world, but also bring you a colorful life.

I am wholly unsure of this item but several regulars have given it the thumbs up for hitting the front page, although several have voted it down. I think it’s a worthy effort, but I am totally unsure of its validity. I’d like to see it on the front page if only to spark some commentary from the readers who voted it down.

Interesting, this guy has managed to get at least 2 papers published in at least semi-respectable journals,

Title: A model of wavefunction collapse in discrete space-time

Author(s): Shan G (Shan, Gao)

Source: INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF THEORETICAL
PHYSICS 45 (10): 1965-1979 OCT 2006

Cited References: 35

Times Cited: 0

Title: Quantum collapse, consciousness and superluminal communication

Author(s): Shan G

Source: FOUNDATIONS OF PHYSICS LETTERS 17 (2): 167-182 APR 2004

Cited References: 65

Times Cited: 0

So, he got a couple of papers past the referees, but so far no citations. What nails it, I think, is this site, the front page looks like a some kind of sci-fi hoax page, but it contains a bio of Gao Shan, that claims, among other statements,

Dr. Gao shan is a pioneering researcher in the area of faster than light signaling and human telepathic communication from quantum superluminal communication.

Dr Gao shan’s research expands upon the area of mental communication as explored at the DIA in the 1990’s.

In the United States, the DIA STAR GATE project developed a working theory of superluminal mind to mind communication.

Their breaking news page is actually quite funny.

Starstream Research tentatively moves Spacetime Threat Assessment Level to SEVERE

The upgrade to SEVERE is based upon new non-specific paraphysical information consistent with previous results of the DIA Progect 94-251-0 for Commander Joint Task Force Five, Coast Guard Island, Alameda, CA 94591 … more information … the decision to increase the threat level is based in part on DIA sources prior warning of 9/11 – like events fifteen years prior to the actual incident.

All I want to know is, what special precautions are we supposed to take now that the Spacetime Threat Assessment Level has hit SEVERE? Break out the transporter inhibitors and reverse the polarity of the Heisenberg compensators, perhaps?

I had glanced at it, but was uncertain as to the aim & quality of the content.

Looking at it fresh, I see this prize quote on the homepage:
“They don’t look like small balls at all; for instance, a single atom can pass through two slits at the same time.”

Wow, it’s been a long time since I’ve studied physics or chemistry.  Obviously I need to brush up with these new advances.

Great find! I knew it was “Controversial Conjecture” material, but that nails it.

Well, that goes to show how easy it is to fall into a trap. That statement is, in fact, completely correct. There are plenty of references other than Wikipedia for the double-slit eexperiment, such as this PhysicsWeb review, or even try google, there will be plenty of quantum physics 101 lecture notes around.
