Scientific Twitter Hits

As my @sciencebase alter ego, I post tweets on a vast range of science and technology subjects. Some point to the straight science news I and others have posted on the web in the countless science news publications out there. Others are technology updates on subjects such as Google Wave, Twitter, specialist search engines and other such matters.

I try to use http://bit.ly and its new partner http://j.mp to shorten URLs to make those tweets as snappy as possible and to give other twitter users plenty of spare characters if they care to retweet (RT) the links with their own commentary. Usefully, those URL shorteners provide some feedback in terms of analytics so I can see how well received was a particular tweet.

As such I can quickly pull together a list of Twitter Hits. Here’s the most recent top ten:

  1. File sharing for scientists
  2. If homeopathy works, I’ll drink my own
  3. Almost ten science search engines
  4. Fun science games
  5. Writing a scientific paper
  6. Swine flu news update
  7. Finding inorganic life
  8. Spot a Twitter spambot in 1 second
  9. Who inspired you to take up science?
  10. Catching the chat on your blog

Interesting, but not sure of the relevance to my post, Tim. Moreover, the cramped font on that site is just awful to read. I realise there’s a lot to cram in, but an extra half of line spacing would be useful to my middle-aged eyes and brain…
