A Novel Idea (none / 0) (#1)
by rickyjames on Sun Jan 18, 2004 at 07:27:17 AM PST
Some people have been pestering me about trying to write a book again, and I'm always whining I've got no ideas worthy of a full novel. Hmm.

Enjoy reading this SciScoop story? Here's a thousand more.

Its a very nice idea. The moment I finished that "document" all I thought was: "where can I get more?"

I have also had some trouble coming up with an idea for a full novel, so I stick to short stories until something comes up =) . Hope you develop it further and make it into something great!

Ideas aplenty (none / 0) (#3)
by BeckySue on Sun Jan 18, 2004 at 09:54:43 AM PST
It is obvious to us that you can come up with lots of imaginative ideas, you do so every week. No need to write a full novel. The Sci Fi piece you did write was awesome the length is irrevelant.

The Mind is a Sick Mistress (none / 0) (#5)

What a sick posting to this normally fine site.

This particular mind... (none / 0) (#7)

is anything but sick.  Poetic, yes, imaginative, you bet.  I loved it, RJ... I, too, wanted more to read. Keep on going!

I told you so! (none / 0) (#10)
by Sylvia Engdahl on Sun Jan 18, 2004 at 03:58:43 PM PST
Ricky, I told you back in 1976 or thereabouts that you have both the ability and the imagination to write a novel ... what's stopping you? (You may justifiably ask the same of me, since I haven't written one since 1981 -- the answer in my case, if anybody's interested, is in my contribution to Critique Magazine's On Writing series.)

In regard to this particular story, it's indeed a possible scenario, and may prove all too prophetic if we don't wake up to the fact that self-interest requires not only that we make all possible effort to explore space, but that we pursue the use of extraterrestrial resources to improve conditions on Earth and thus reduce the discontent of those who now hate us enough to support people like Bin Laden.

The sad thing (none / 0) (#12)
by Chronosphere on Sun Jan 18, 2004 at 05:31:18 PM PST
I think it would be really really sad if in the years to come obscurantism, a la medieval times, would be still around. Religious fanatism (sorry if I hurt someones feelings here) should die SOON.
