Apparently, new research suggests that the best option for recovery after a strenuous workout is a big bowl of pasta washed down with a few cups of strong coffee, no decaff though.
Glycogen, the muscle's primary fuel source when exercising is replenished much quicker when an athlete ingests plenty of carbohydrate with caffeine, according to results published in the Journal of Applied Physiology.
Athletes who ingested caffeine with carbohydrate had 66% more glycogen in their muscles four hours after finishing intense, glycogen-depleting exercise, compared to when they consumed carbohydrate alone.
